Private Communications Corporation has Developed a Software Product to Protect Your Data While Using a Public Network

Sherman, CT, August 19, 2010: According to software company, Private Communications Corporation (PCC), “hackers can’t steal what hackers can’t see.” This is their principle behind their new PRIVATE WiFi™ service. PCC CEO, Kent Lawson, says that using public wifi hotpots leaves you vulnerable, because there is a new kind of hacker out there called a ‘sniffer’ that can intercept your signal on a public network. Firewalls and antivirus software will not protect you from these hackers, making it easy for them to steal vital information, such as names, passwords, Social Security and credit card numbers.

PRIVATE WiFi can protect you from the aforementioned vulnerabilities by encrypting the data which flows into and out of your computer, making you invisible to hackers. It installs in just minutes, runs invisibly in the background, and protects you whenever and wherever you are connected to the Internet.

The PRIVATE WiFi network is a Virtual Private Network (VPN) with 128-bit encryption, and it secures everything you send or receive. The network is built in the same way and uses the same security methods as those employed by the government, banks, and other major companies.

Though a formal launch date for the product has not yet been announced, PCC Director of Internet Marketing, Miguel Neder says, “we’re moving forward with the early adopters program. The first group of PRIVATE WiFi customers will be able to test the product during normal usage and provide the company with feedback on their experiences.” Early adopters will be able to receive a month free for their efforts in suggesting improvements to the software and in reporting any undesirable functionality .

About Wifi Security Risks

The convenience of logging on to the Internet in a coffee shop, or any other public area offering a hotspot where wireless Internet is available, has driven the popularity of wifi considerably up in the last year. But few people realize the huge security risks associated with using wifi connections .

Hacking methods have become much more sophisticated and innovative with wifi. Wireless networks use a radio link instead of physical cables to connect computers together. As a result, anyone within range can theoretically listen in or transmit data on the network. When you connect to a wifi network, you automatically open up your PC or laptop, as well as your personal information stored on it, to a new type of hacker called a sniffer.

Hacking, or sniffing, has also become much easier with widely available easy-to-use hacking tools. This is an eye-opener because hackers can get into a network via wireless and once in, they can obtain Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, credit card numbers, and other personal and financial information. Intruders don’t need physical access to your computer; they can be sitting in your parking lot or just a few tables down from you in that coffee shop. With a program like this, a hacker can gain access to a wireless access point, run their hacker tool, and in just a few minutes obtain every password you use.
